Poker Strategy
LEARN THE RULES, POSITIONS AND HAND RANKINGS
This is the first step you want to take before you jump into a Poker table. While learning general Poker rules can be easy, you should spend some time memorizing hand rankings. It is very important that you are aware of how strong your hand is if you want to play it correctly.
In our Hand Rankings section, you can get all the information you need about the strength of each Poker hand. Take a few minutes to learn it and get ready to start playing!
USE YOUR POSITION AT THE POKER TABLE
It is very important to be aware of your position relatively to dealer button in every Poker hand you play. Having position on your opponents means you will have the advantage of knowing what they did before making your decision at each stage of the hand.
For this reason, you should try to play more hands whenever you are in late position (on the button and the positions immediately to its right) and play tight when you are in early positions (on the left of the blinds).
PAY ATTENTION TO EVERYTHING
Even when you are not in the hand, you should still concentrate on the game to try to understand how your opponents at the table usually play. Sometimes you will be able to identify players who bluff too much or players that rarely play their hands and this information can be useful in the future. The more information you can get from your opponents, the better the opportunity you will have to beat them!
TAKE YOUR TIME
Do not fall into a habit of making automatic decisions. Take your time to think things through before making your decision when it is your turn to act. Especially at the beginning, it can be overwhelming to think about all the small things that affect every single hand such as your position, the strength of your hand, your opponent’s actions and how much you should bet. That is why you should always take all the time you need before making your decisions.
At the same time, you have limited time to act so always keep an eye on the clock and use your time bank whenever you are facing a tough decision.
HAVE FUN
The last and most important Poker tip for beginners is the simple idea of always trying to have fun when you decide to play. Poker is an exciting game with many different formats available from cash games to tournaments or even Sit & Gos. It is important that you find the right format for you. And more importantly, you should pick the one that you find to be the most fun and exciting.
Overtime, you will realize that Poker is a thrilling game with lots of ups and downs. At times you will jump of excitment after winning a big pot. And other times you will curse your luck after losing an all-in with a pair of Aces. But more important than a strategy, is that you have fun while playing your favorite format. Only then will you be able to overcome any adversity that may arise at the tables!
